Emmilyne's Ears

Emmilyne had her second set of tubes placed on the 19th. She had a horrible infection at the time and was "demon child" after the surgery. I am happy to say that she is doing better now and is no longer that demon. She is just 2 and a half. lol

Thank God for Dr. Wyatt and his team. I am not sure what we would have done without him. Emmilyne has had such bad infections and has been delayed in her speech. She is cathing up and we are hoping with enrolling her in a preschool program that the learning and catching up will continue.

Another Trip to Kansas?

I know, I know. We go to Kansas alot. This trip added new excitement. Emmilyne is potty training. She has been on it for about 3 weeks and is doing very well. Her potty was added to teh trunk so we could stop in the middle of no-where if need be.... well we did. It is called Oklahoma.
Well....Granny and Paw Paw love seeing the kids. But this trip was something even more special. We got to visit Uncle Micah and meet Aunt Patti.

Meet Aunt Patti....wow... they have been married a year but we had not met her yet. In May of 2007 we could not afford to go to Detroit to the reception and it is too far to drive from Dallas to Detroit so we had to wait. They were heading to Kansas to see the folks and we got to go too! Emmilyne starting talking about Patti as soon as we got in the car. She hit if off with Aunt Patti.
Even helped her blow out her birthday candles... Emmilyne was so excited...she kept saying her cake... we had to explain that her birthday is next month... September.
I was very happy to see my brother. I don't get to see him near enough. Tears came to my eyes when he held my kids and Emmilyne gave him a kiss. She has always said the two of them in her prayers at night... now she know who they are.

Emmilyne loves to swim and got to swim in mom's pool too.... It was a little cold...they were having a cool front so it was only about 75 degrees each day. Emmilyne does not care about the water tempature, just as long as she gets to "go swimming" and "jump". She and Micah also blew bubbles in the backyard. Emmilyne now "LOVES" her Uncle Micah... they did bubbles for about a hour!
We had a great time as you can see by the many photos... we did not leave until later on Sunday and had a chance to go feed the ducks at the local park. One thing that Mom always does with Emmilyne and Emmilyne loves it. We all went this time. It was very nice.

One rule I think we learned.... never leave Kansas to come home at 7:30 in the evening. lol

Thank heaven for Children's

Beckam... wow.. only 9 weeks old and already has us hoppin'.
Wednesday the 23rd (also my mom's B-Day) Beckam was running a low grade fever and I was not too worried about it... he had his shots just a few days before. Well... Chris came home and leaned down and kissed Emmilyne and me and then Beckam... and noted that he was "hot". I was feeding him so when I finished I changed his diaper and took his temperature. It was 101.1
I gave him some tylenol and waited for that to take effect. The more I thougth about it I thought I needed to call the pediatrician. So, I did. The nurse called me back and said that even with shots he should not be that hot. Dr. Neely (who we found due to the Jecko's) has priviledges at Children's so that is where we were to take them. Well...Chris had State of Texas in his building with annual survey and would need to go to work the next day and Emmilyne was in the tub so Beckam and I headed off to Children's hospital in downtown Dallas (about a 45 minuted drive from our house) to get Beckam looked at. I was just sure that he had an ear infection and his temp was getting high....that is what we are acustom to with Emmilyne, But no-the-less, mom was worried. It was 10:30 at night and we are headed to Harry Hines in Dallas? What are we? Crazy? Got there and had to wait about one and a half hours to be seen. The ER had 3 trauma's come in and I heard a "CodeBlue" once. Not a good sign. So they took some history and starting poking at Beckam. They did a nasal swab and a urine culture...(sorry to say that an intern inserted the catheter...it was her first on a baby boy..but she did really well) and then came the search for a good vein on Beckam to take blood. Well, we learned that he has small veins and they are close to the surface of his skin which makes the needles blow the line easy. So after 6 tries, they got his blood. We waited and waited. We then went off to have a chest X-ray and when we came back the Emergency room doctor was in Beckam's room. They had received the results of his blood work and it was not good. He has a white blood cell count of 19.4. I was told that it was very high, 22 is considered critical for a baby his age and size. Therefore, they wanted to do a spinal tap. I had to sign for it to be completed and then I called Chris, crying. I was not sure what was going on but I did not think that I could be in the room for that. A few minutes later, they started the procedure. I picked up my phone and headed out of the room to call mom and let her know what was going on and the doctor called me back into the room. Beckam was hyperventilating because he was crying so hard and they did not want me to leave. So I had to stay and watch. I will never forget that. The first few nights at home after the hospital I dreamed about it. NOT GOOD!
After all the test were done... we waited. Waited. Waited. At 4 am they told me that Beckam did have pneumonia. In his right middle lobe for sure and possibly in his left lower lobe. We were going to be admitted to the hospital under Dr. Neely's care.

We got up to his room C6-252 (tower C, 6th floor, room 252) at about 6:30 am and I was exhausted. With the help of the nurses, which were on all shifts were WONDERFUL, we got Beckam into his crib and my sofa/bed ready for me to rest in. Chris showed up on his way to work after giving Emmilyne to Julie so she could take Emmilyne to Bert's (thanks to you both) and Chris's face was a light for me. That is the one of two times I cried at the hospital.

Beckam was there for 3 days and had 4 rounds of IV antibotics and sent home with 10 days of oral antibotics. His poor tummy is so upset with all the medicine.

Our family and friends from Church came to visit. We are so glad they did.... Auntie Cathy and Father Jed (sorry I put Father in but it is your title...we know..."Just Jed") also came to visit but I did not get pictures of them while they were there.

Emmilyne was upset about Beckam and I being gone when we woke up. Chris explained that Baby Beck was sick and that he was with the doctor. With that, she seemed okay. Julie tells me that she was saying "Baby Beck sick" often and was eager to see us. When she did see Beckam at the hospital she wanted to get in the crib with him. She did and she just loved on him and kissed him. That was the other time I cried. She is a good big sister.

We are all home now and Beckam seems to be healing good. We will return to the doctor on Tuesday for a check up.
Everyone kept telling us that if something had gone wrong, that Beckam was in the best hopital for it to happen. I would agree. Children's Hospital is the best. The nurses and staff were amazing with Beckam. I will not hesitate to take him or Emmilyne there for any reason.
Thanks to all of you who helped with Emmilyne or prayers or calls. We love you all.
